Hockey Injuries: The Common Ones

Hockey is a rough game and it is a very brutal sport to be involved in. There are really a lot of injuries tht are common amongst hockey players. These are a part of the game however that doesn’t stop them being career threatening. A lot of hockey players are prone to back injuries, knees, arms and many other things. The team most common injuries that hockey players get are

Lower back
Head trauma
Neck strain
Tendonitis
Black eye
Broken teeth
Frostbite
Spinal cord injury
Broken bones

Often these injuries are career ending and this happens a lot in the NHL. Many players have to cut their careers short becaue of an accident or due to a repeat of overuse injuries in the same place. If it is not career ending it is common that a player has to play in pain for many many years and eventually will escalate to a serious overuse injury that makes them stop. It requires a ot of pain management and therapy. many ahockey player sthat have these injuries often have to play in pain, and it is not a comfortable thing to have to do. It make slife very hard to deal with. You often see a lot of atheletes becoming reliant on pain killer to play, and that is definitely not a good idea. These can also cause other issues.

Many common knee problems are simply fixed with a cortisone shot, this can cause erosion of cartilage over time, after too many shots. This can be very serious and may result in a full or partial knee replacement in later life. This is why a lot of physical and massage therapists know straight away whether an athletes body will hold up properly the course of their life or whether they will simply have a lot of trouble in that area. It will eventually wear out due to frequent repetitve motion and moving that they do during the game and training throughout the year.

The biggest problem resulting from these injuries is the fact that many players have to have surgery to fix it. This can also result in a lot more pain over the years and is never pleasant. The rehabilitation is always tough, and a player must simply have the right mindset to be able to get back from it stroner than what they were before. The pain can be chronic and very annoying over a long period of time and make it dfficult to sleep and to do normal activities that does not at all involve hockey. Most athletes however will not accept retirement after a serious injury and will do their best tp get back to what they were before hand. However the big problem is that during the rehabilitation many athletes think they know what is best for them and will simply not listen to what the doctor or the therapist has to say. They will need to rest and do let their body adapt however the athlete wil want to do more and more and try to get stronger and stronger. This often simply makes the injury worse. It won’t get them back on the ice in a shorter amount of time.

Different views on Time Management

Most people think of time management as a system for organizing the day or week in order to maximize efficiency. I’d like to propose a different view of time management that is complimentary to the traditional view but has far greater implications for your quality of life.

Rather than viewing time on the small scale of a day or a week or a month or even a year let’s think of how effective your time has been over a lifetime.

There are 8,766 hours in an average year. This means that by the age of 20 you have lived 175,320 hours, by 30 it is 262,980, by 40 you have lived 350,640 and by 50 the total hours lived adds up to 438,300 on so on.

My question is; are you getting value for those hours? If you were paying someone, by the hour, to build a magnificent life would you be happy that you had got your money’s worth if that person had built your current life in the total number of hours that you have lived?

With traditional time management it is easy to become super efficient each and every day and yet when viewed over a lifetime you have really not achieved anything magnificent or inspiring.

My suggestion is this; that at the beginning of each week, before you plan yours days and hours for the week, you imagine yourself looking back from ten years in the future. Then ask yourself; what do I need to do this week so that when I look back I will honestly say that those ten years were a magnificent part of my life and I am totally and enthusiastically proud to have lived them.

The only time that you can actually use is the precise moment that you are presently experiencing. However without a frame of reference most people fritter away those present moments. By viewing each moment as a dot of paint on the canvas of a magnificent life then it is far more likely that you will treasure the moment and use it to enhance your life.

At the start of each month repeat the weekly exercise but instead of thinking from the perspective of ten years into the future think from the perspective of look back from the last few moments of your life. Imagine that you have finally run out of time and you are assessing whether your life was a success, a failure or just another average existence. What would you really like to see? what sort of life would you really be happy to have lived?

Once you have this picture in your mind ask yourself how you need to use your time in order to be contributing to that amazing adventure that your life should be. There are many different religious and philosophical views on life after death and reincarnation and planes of existence but the only things you can be sure of is that you have this life that you are experiencing now and that one day this life will be over.

Life is not a practice session it is the real thing. Every moment you live is a little piece that, when taken together with all the other moments, creates your unique life. The clearer the picture you have of that life as a whole, the easier it is to know where and how this present moment best fits into that life.

1. Usually, break-ups happen when both of the parties involved are angry. Decision making through rational thinking is completely obstructed by emotions. Being Overwhelmed: Are You Letting Someone or Something Else Control Your time?

You often hear someone say that they are overwhelmed or feel overwhelmed by things in their life. What are some ways that people feel overwhelmed?

One major way is having clutter everywhere in sight, seemingly zillions of unresolved bits. Another way many people feel overwhelmed is by schedules that are packed with activities all day every day.

Many people feel overwhelmed by technology. The “labor saving” devices, computers, cell phones, email, texting, IMing, PDA’s all consume massive and growing amounts of time and energy, and that is on days when they are working perfectly. If they are malfunctioning intermittently or simply “croak”, they can quickly consume hours and days of our time in frustrating attempts to revive or replace them. Meanwhile, production, i.e., moving ahead on our goals simply ceases.

These are just a few of the most common ways that people feel overwhelmed. Consider for a moment that being overwhelmed might mean that you are letting someone or something else control your time. If that statement is true, how can you take back control of your time and leave overwhelm behind forever?

1. Getting control of paper in the office would be a great start. One of the best places to start is to decide to be more conscious in lessening or preventing increase in paper.
2. Start with mail. When you bring the mail in, sort it right away beside the recycling bin. Immediately recycle everything that would have eventually ended up there anyway. Sort out any bills and put them in a designated place immediately. This will save time later and you won’t have to dig through piles looking for your bills.
3. Next, consider changing your practices regarding computer printouts. Come up with some sort of new criteria for what you print off the computer. Perhaps you will decide to make folders on the computer and save documents there rather than printing them out and adding to the piles. Maybe you could decide not to print anything at all unless a printout was specifically needed and would be used immediately.
4. Consider the premise that overwhelm might mean letting someone else control your time. How does technology play a part here? Cell phones, text messages, IM’s demand that we are on call all the time. You may want to come up with some limitations to your availability to take back some or all of your time. Perhaps decide to answer messages only once or twice a day. If your labor saving gadgets waste a lot of your time, it might be a good idea to consider going “cold turkey” and not be connected 24/7. It’s a subversive concept, but ultimately quite freeing.
5. With email, consider deleting any time wasters immediately without opening. You have the right to ask others to leave you off any of their chain letter emails, and I’m sure you won’t experience dire consequences.
6. Look at any way you can simplify your calendar, either limiting the number of commitments or simplifying the procedures or gadgets involved.
7. Constantly analyze where your time goes and question any time usage that has “time killing” as a product. Computer card games is a great example.

Just keep looking for ways that you can take back control of your life and no longer live in overwhelm.

Its OK to Put It on the Back Burner!

Have you ever added a new project and found that you had actually taken on one thing too many? Have you ever found yourself being a “human doing” rather than a human being? Do you live with your schedule crammed with activity from early in the morning until late in the evening? Are you driven by commitments and can’t figure out a way to get out from under some of them? Consider that it’s OK to put some things on the “back burner”.

What’s this mean and how do you do it? Putting things on the back burner means to deliberately and consciously choose some actions and activities to de-emphasize so that you can focus on the most important items. You will choose some items to stop taking action on now. In effect, you will be creating a timeline for projects, where some items will be handled in the future, and “put to bed” until that future time.

You might say, “But they are all equally important!” or, “There’s nothing I can de-emphasize!” Here’s some questions you can use to select things that could go to the back burner.

- Is there any area where you have interest, but due to other commitments, you’ve done no follow through in this area in a long time or never?
- Is there any area where you are collecting massive unread material that causes you pain, guilt and distress when it comes to your attention?
- Is there any area you have commitments to because you believe you “should” do something?
- Is there any area where you are afraid to let go for fear of “falling behind” while holding on to this is causing you to fall behind in really important areas?
- Is there any area where you feel only overwhelm when you consider it?
- Is there an area where you’re doing something so someone else will like you?
- Is there an area where you’re doing something to please others?
- Is there any area where you are simply “going through the motions”?
- Is there any area where you simply feel dread when you think of it.

Consider moving these items to the back burner. The important thing to remember about this concept is that items on the back burner become inactive. They are not completely taken off your list of actions. You simply don’t spend time on them NOW. They can be reactivated at some future time….or not, at your choice. After a period of deactivation, you will find yourself ready to totally decommit from some activities. Other activities you may choose to reactivate at a future time, perhaps with smaller time commitments.

Realize that you have the right to choose which activities receive your focus. In a way, you actually have a duty to yourself to do so. Doing so will allow you to spend your time on those things that mean the most to you, and contribute the most to a satisfying life. It’s a form of respect for yourself to know when, and to decide how you will move things to the back burner.
