Benefits of Time Management

Tuesday 23 September 2008 @ 2:09 am

by Crizza Reyes
Each year, our society is having a great fast paced. And we are all looking for the ways to help us complete the things that we need to do in the possible shortest time so that we can add additional time to have for ourselves. This will lead us to get in trouble if we doing things fast that mistakes our made. If this case happened, this will tend us to spend additional time correcting our mistakes that can create a cruel cycle. There are times when we simply need to slow things down.

It is strange, to see how few of them really look deeply into the benefits of time management involving with so many businesses taking up and so many forceful cost cutting measures. Having an effective management of time is like something having an effective management of any other resources that can save your company a huge amount of money if it is properly implemented. With the huge cost of outsourcing and moving operations overseas, it seems like every measure should be taken at home to improve efficiency before such a drastic solution is proposed. Effective time management enables you to lead a more balanced life by helping you find the time and energy to devote to all the important areas of your life.

In order for us to become more organize, one of the best things that we can do is to help ourselves first. Organization can help us manage our time better. There are many benefits of time management. We can be more productive as well as more efficient. Effective time management increases your productivity allowing you to accomplish more with less effort. Improving your productivity is not about doing more in less time, it is really about accomplishing more by working less that we can save our money and time. This creates a happy employer and when this reflects back to you, it may mean additional compensation in money or time off.

Although the modern understanding of the benefits of time management is a little bit different than as it was originally planned, the concept still goes back about as far as Henry Ford and the invention of the assembly line. Of course, performance management is still nothing new. Different steps were taken to improve the program constantly, resulting in less work for the same product.

It is easy to see the benefits of time management on an assembly line. Time management benefits can little bit less obvious if you are in an office environment. This does not mean that they are not important! The benefits of time management will show up in the books, but it will take a while. After all, the tasks that people have are usually a little bit less concrete. Rather than manufacturing a car, you have to type up financial reports, communicate with clients, and do other similar business tasks.

All of us release the benefits of time management, but implementing the skills may be something new to us. And i try to have the list of work well for me. When I make lists at the beginning of each day I find I am more organize to get the things done that are needed. My daily routine everyday is to write down the things that i would like to as well as needed to accomplish for that day. Then i prioritize the list in order of what is the most important to accomplish. For example if I need to meet with a co-worker on a different floor and also deliver reports to another department I will do this at the same time. This way I am away from my desk for one period of time thus cutting down on the amount of running around I need to do. I also do as much correspondence at one time as possible to limit the number of trips to the printer, copier and mail room. Also I find when I am out and about away from my office I spend time greeting co-worker and doing other things that can eat away at my time. Some of these techniques may seem rigid, however the benefits of this time management pay off by getting things done and creating more time by the end of the week. Since I have been doing my work following these methods I find that I am often able to leave early at the end of the week.

The individual performance and the job satisfaction of any particular worker is the greatest benefits of time management. Our job duties increases and can seem so overwhelming without having an effective time management training. After all, when a worker is used to getting a certain amount accomplished in a single day, adding additional tasks on is never welcome. The benefits of time management training is that it allows you to provide a way to ease workers into taking on additional responsibilities. It will be able you to cope up if you provide with adequate training. If not, you can often lose some of your best, most seasoned employees to greener fields. No matter what employee benefits you offer, if you stress them out too much, or stretch their time too thin, they will leave for another company.

Most people think of time management as a tool to save time, get organized, or get more things done. While time management does address each of these things, I like to think of time management as a tool for improving the quality of your life. More information available at our web site.

Self-Improvement Powers Needs Unlocking

Saturday 20 September 2008 @ 5:09 am

by Carl Hoffman
When we look at a certain object, a painting for example — we won’t be able to appreciate what’s in it, what is painted and what else goes with it if the painting is just an inch away from our face. But if we try to take it a little further, we’ll have a clearer vision of the whole art work.

We reach a point in our life when we are ready for change and a whole bunch of information that will help us unlock our self improvement power. Until then, something can be staring us right under our nose but we don’t see it. The only time we think of unlocking our self improvement power is when everything got worst. Take the frog principle for example —

Try placing Frog A in a pot of boiling water. What happens? He twerps! He jumps off! Why? Because he is not able to tolerate sudden change in his environment — the water’s temperature. Then try Frog B: place him in a luke warm water, then turn the gas stove on. Wait til the water reaches a certain boiling point. Frog B then thinks “Ooh… it’s a bit warm in here”.

People are like Frog B in general. Today, Anna thinks Carl hates her. Tomorrow, Patrick walks up to her and told her he hates her. Anna stays the same and doesn’t mind her what her friends says. The next day, she learned that Kim and John also abhors her. Anna doesn’t realize at once the importance and the need for self improvement until the entire community hates her.

We learn our lessons when we experience pain. We finally see the warning signs and signals when things get rough and tough. When do we realize that we need to change diets? When none of our jeans and shirts would fit us. When do we stop eating candies and chocolates? When all of our teeth has fallen off. When do we realize that we need to stop smoking? When our lungs have gone bad. When do we pray and ask for help? When we realize that we’re gonna die tomorrow.

The only time most of us ever learn about unlocking our self improvement power is when the whole world is crashing and falling apart. We think and feel this way because it is not easy to change. But change becomes more painful when we ignore it.

Change will happen, like it or hate it. At one point or another, we are all going to experience different turning points in our life — and we are all going to eventually unlock our self improvement power not because the world says so, not because our friends are nagging us, but because we realized its for our own good.

Happy people don’t just accept change, they embrace it. Now, you don’t have to feel a tremendous heat before realizing the need for self improvement. Unlocking your self improvement power means unlocking yourself up in the cage of thought that “its just the way I am”. It is such a poor excuse for people who fear and resist change. Most of us program our minds like computers.

Jen repeatedly tells everyone that she doesn’t have the guts to be around groups of people. She heard her mom, her dad, her sister, her teacher tell the same things about her to other people. Over the years, that is what Jen believes. She believes its her story. And what happens? Every time a great crowd would troop over their house, in school, and in the community — she tends to step back, shy away and lock herself up in a room. Jen didn’t only believed in her story, she lived it.

Jen has to realize that she is not what she is in her story. Instead of having her story post around her face for everyone to remember, she has to have the spirit and show people “I am an important person and I should be treated accordingly!”

Self improvement may not be everybody’s favorite word, but if we look at things in a different point of view, we might have greater chances of enjoying the whole process instead of counting the days until we are fully improved. Three sessions in a week at the gym would result to a healthier life, reading books instead of looking at porns will shape up a more profound knowledge, going out with friends and peers will help you take a step back from work and unwind. And just when you are enjoying the whole process of unlocking your self improvement power, you’ll realize that you’re beginning to take things light and become happy.

Get Back Girlfriend- Text Message Troubles

Saturday 20 September 2008 @ 4:09 am

by Rachel Evans
Q: “I want to get back girlfriend, but I can’t figure out what this text she sent me means.”

One question that I hear a lot from guys who are trying to get back girlfriend, is that they run into trouble after they’ve taken the first step, accepting the breakup.

The first step I always suggest in how to get back girlfriend is to accept the breakup and stop trying to get back girlfriend. Begging to get back girlfriend will only push her further away and make it harder for you to actually get back girlfriend. When you show that you agree with the breakup and that you’re also moving on, it makes her regret the breakup and want to get back together with you. And then you’re one step closet to get back girlfriend.

A lot of guys to do this run into a little bit of a problem, usually around a week after they stop contacting their ex-girlfriend. Around this time they get a text message from her. You know, it’s nothing major or lovey-dovey. Usually it’s just a sort of random question, like: “Hey, I ran into so-and-so the other day and he says he hasn’t seen you in a while.”

Most guys don’t know what to do with this. Should they respond to the text message or not? It seems perfectly innocent, and she’s initiating contact, so wouldn’t that seemed to indicate that you’re about to get back girlfriend?

But the problem with answering that text is that you’re jumping the gun. Responding to that will not help you get back girlfriend. It will only undo all of your previous efforts. The reason she sent that text was because she was getting nervous that you had forgotten about her and moved on. She’s worried that you’re not interested in get back girlfriend anymore.

But since it’s a neutral message, it doesn’t mean that it you’ll get back girlfriend right now. You just have to wait a little longer and may her go out of her mind just a little bit more. If you ignore that text, she’ll start to really worry. And chances are, the next time she contacts you, she’ll be more open and to picking up the relationship.

The main thing to remember if you want to get back girlfriend is that you’re not going to respond to her until you see that she’s desperate to start up the relationship again. And you can never, ever get into a serious discussion by texting. If she sends you a text message saying she wants to talk to you, suggest that the two of you get together for lunch or coffee.

There are a whole bunch of little psychological tricks that will make her want to get back together, and you’ll only be able to pull those off in person. So you need to make sure to play your cards right if you want to get back girlfriend.

Are You Tired of Allowing Others to Waste Your Time?

Thursday 18 September 2008 @ 3:09 pm

by Carla McNeil
Time is a commodity we cannot replace.Very recently I realized how much I was allowing others to waste my time. I know how valuable time is and I got so tired of allowing others to waste my time that I finally decided to do something about it.

Change Your mind - Change Your Life

Learning how to recognize how I was allowing my time to be wasted has been a journey of continuous learning. As I have grown and changed I recognize more and more things that I do are a waste of my time. Years ago I used to be so proud of how much I got done. Yet, many of my activities were just busy work, not something that was allowing me to learn and grow as a person. Everyone will have different things that they do that are “busy work”. One of my biggest time wasters was TV. I had always thought it was my husband who was the big TV watcher then I realized that I used him as an excuse. When I was feeling lazy or annoyed, if he was watching TV I would simply sit down and watch it with him. After all “if he can, so can I”. Then I realized it was up to me, and only me to decide what was important in my life.

I had to decide what I wanted, what was my goal for my life. Once that came into focus for me it became much easier to recognize when I was wasting my own time or allowing others to waste it for me. I had to ask myself “what do I want my future to look like?”, then take the action that would set me on the path to that future. There have been times where I stop and ask myself “is this activity something that will assist me in achieving my goal?” If the answer is “no” then do I really want to do it? I have found that to be very useful in keeping myself on track.

This has made me realize that some of my own habits are my time wasters. My experience has been that the older we are the more our habits are ingrained. In order to change these ingrained habits the more focused we must be on the change. I have come to understand that the younger we start on this journey the shorter it will be. However it is NEVER too late to start, no one knows how long they are going to be here on this earth.

Now I ask myself “am I using my time in order to make my own way prosperous or am I cursing my own path?” I believe that watching TV was cursing my path, it was contributing nothing to my life. How we spend our time is always our own choice. I had a conversation recently with a friend who said that she did not have a choice in how she spent her time. Her brother was very sick and she had to spend time with him. When I disagreed with her that she still had a choice she was quite upset with me. However when I explained what I meant she agreed. She loves her brother dearly, wants to spend time with him and assist him anywhere she can. That is her choice to support her brother, she said yes, she would rather spend time with him right now than anything else. I have another friend whose sister was sick many years ago, they did not get along well. Her choice was not to spend time with her sick sister. It is always our choice how we spend our time. In this example the decision of where to spend the time was based on the relationship.

Its time to take action: Write down a list of what you do in a day. Then write down the items from the list that are important to you. This will allow you to recognize how you spend your time and provide you with the information you need in order to make the decision of how to spend your time an informed one.

Scheduling our time is a success habit. Do you believe you would you be able to just “drop in” on Oprah or Donald Trump? I learned from my strategic business coach, John Di Lemme, just how important a planner/scheduler is! As much as we want to believe we will remember everything, we don’t. We are, after all, human. We are bombarded with so much information every second of our lives we will never remember everything. Today I even write down the small details in my “million dollar planner” such as remember to pick up the dry cleaning. The beauty of using the planner this way is it frees up space in my brain.
I wrote it down, we don’t need to remember anymore. We can now concentrate our time on something else, perhaps something that will take us down the prosperous path.

Are you willing to leave your comfort zone in order to have more time in your life? Are you struggling in the wrong place? Are you tired of being tired? I know that for me some of that “tired” came from attempting to hold too many things in my brain. Buying that planner and putting it to use in your life is a success habit. You can be as scheduled as you like. I have found that the more scheduled I am the more time I have and then the more scheduled I become. Gives me a wonderful feeling to be caught up in a great empowering circle rather than the vicious negative ones I used to be in.

Send me an email, let me know what you like best about the article. I would love to hear your feedback. If you have some tips you would like to share please send them to me in an email, it would be great to hear from you.

The Value Of Time Management Training

Tuesday 16 September 2008 @ 5:09 pm

by Sheila Mulrennan
Time is the most valuable but least controlled asset for any business organization. Time management training seeks to maximize the amount of work done for the limited time that is available for the enterprise. Every person in the office hierarchy would benefit from undergoing time management training. In return, one can expect that the person who received training would be able to manage their time properly and become a more productive individual in the workplace.

The fact is we cannot control time. Once the second ticks past, it cannot be brought back. We can only work within the constraints of time and it is in this context that time management training has its value. By training staff members to handle their respective workloads within the framework of time allowed, businesses can do more and gain more in the long run. To simplify, the aim of time management training is to exercise work teams to handle deadlines effectively towards a more productive business.

Time management does not only benefit the business. Those who take the time to train for time management also gains valuable insights into managing time effectively in relation to their personal and family lives. One can therefore find a balance in their work-life situations which in turn helps them to be more less stressed, stable and happy individuals.

Time Management for Businesses

The main complaint in a lot of office environments these days is the amount of backlog that may have accumulated with regards to the work of individual staff members. This is the tell-tale symptom that the worker has too much work than he can actually handle or that something is lacking in terms of the worker’s time management capabilities.

When left unchecked, you may not even notice it but these backlogs can become a huge burden for the entire business organization. That is why it is highly recommended to have every staff member, especially with new personnel as part of their orientation, to undergo at least some form of rudimentary time management training. With that in place, your staff will not have an excuse for having backlogs at work.

For management and top executives, time management training is all the more imperative as these are the positions that are usually the busiest in the company. Here, setting priorities and delegation play very important roles. When management are unavailable, aspects of the business may be overlooked which could be detrimental to its performance.

The Relevance of Training

The scope of time management encompasses everything about a business — from day to day operations, to holding of meetings, execution of projects to housekeeping activities. Everyone spends time at tasks and more often than not have deadlines to meet.

Hence, time management becomes relevant for everybody in the office. Time management training is a singular learning experience that is important for anyone who exchanges their time for producing other products or services that are of value to others. With this, it can be said that business and time management training are inseparable and should always go hand in hand to ensure success.

Top 10 Mistakes to Avoid When Writing A CV

Sunday 14 September 2008 @ 8:09 am

by Dan Black
Juicy CV Writing Tips Part 1

The Internet has changed the way we do business today, unlike a few years ago when paper and pen was the standard. “Just because your CV is nice on paper, it doesn’t mean it’s nice on a computer.”

Research has been done lately on more than 2, 500 recruiters from a variety of industries about what they see on CVs that they just can’t stand, so we’ve compiled a short summary of the 10 biggest mistakes to avoid when writing your CV or Resume. This is what the industry is saying, so it’s advised that you listen to it.

Below are the 10 biggest mistakes from the survey and some guidance notes to help you steer clear from making the same mistakes on your CV:

1. Spelling Errors, Typos and Bad Grammar
Everyone loves “Spell Check” obviously, but unfortunately it won’t catch all the errors or mistakes. “Manger” is a correctly spelled term, but it means something completely different and unrelated to “manager. Pay attention and be present to those buzzwords that may be related to your field.

2. Duty - Oriented Overkill
If you’re using your current employer’s Job description, congratulations you’ve just lost the whole point of your CV. Employers are quite well informed so it’s likely that they already know what the job is; your CV should highlight your accomplishments in that particular position. It is advised that you show what you’ve really done by outlining the process, outcomes and effect that are specific to you.

3. Repetition
The fastest and surest way to irritate the person reading your CV is by using and re-using the equivalent subset of verbs. For example, if you list a few jobs in the section containing your Professional Experience, make sure that they don’t all begin with “Responsibilities I had… “. On the same letter, they shouldn’t all begin with “Developed and Created… “Either! As simple as this advice sounds, many CV’s have a tendency to include more than a mouthful of unnecessary and overused verbs.

4. Inaccurate or Lost Dates
Potential Employers need to know exactly when and where you’ve worked before so that they can better evaluate your application and qualifications and also perform the correct background checks to see if you’ll qualify for the relevant job that you’ve applied for. Misplaced and incorrect dates that cover a long period of time, will result in the recruiter having to investigate and therefore the CV may become obsolete because of it.

5. Imperfect and Missing Contact Data
Be sure that every Resume you send has the correct contact information, including name, mobile and phone numbers, and also the correct email address. Recruiters don’t have the time to look you up; they’ll quickly move on to the next candidate in line.

6. Personal Facts Unrelated to the Work
Many Recruiters are short on time so it’s recommended that you don’t want to distract them with your age, peak, weight and interests unless they’re directly relevant to the work you want to do.

7. Very Long CVs
Almost all recruiters and employers won’t think twice on this and won’t have the time to read them. Focus on the skills and accomplishments that directly apply to the undertaking you’re trying to achieve. Every point counts so do not dwell on the specifics of each topic, but advisably highlight the points relevant and specific to you.

8. Don’t Be Too Creative
There is certainly no need to go overboard. Using words like “ameliorated” and “edification “in your resume is overkill. Simplicity and conciseness are keys to building mighty CV’s. By using too many big words you risk coming across as vain, patronizing, and flippant (sort of like this sentence). No employer is in the mood to pull out a dictionary just to find out what you did at your last assignment.

9. Functional CVs
Wherever possible, it’s highly advised you go with a chronological CV and centre on the skills and accomplishments that are relevant to the job position you’re pursuing. Generally most people are pretty active and manage to keep their work skills going. Use that information to fill in the gaps.

10. Flashy CV designs
Flashy designs are almost guaranteed to hit the rubbish bin immediately. Unless you are a model or a customer - service applicant do not even think about using a photograph. Avoid colours, text effects and unusual fonts because the employer simply cannot process them.
Follow this rule if you want your CV to succeed: keep the appearance simple because it is the quality of the content that resonates with recruiters and makes them want to meet you. No bravado will ever impress them - they have seen every gimmick in the book and they are sick of looking at them twenty times a day.

Distraction Is The Biggest Killer Of Success

Wednesday 3 September 2008 @ 5:09 pm

by Dominic Tay
Being distracted is a deadly sin that most people commit. According to a study conducted in April 2006 by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), it is estimated that “distractions are a contributing factor in 8 out of every 10 police-reported traffic crashes, or an estimated 4 million crashes per year.”1

Being distracted is so easy nowadays. A common scenario is this…

You reach home and you told yourself you had to study for your test or you had to complete your work assignment. But the moment you open the door and you see the television being switched on to your favorite channel, you stop in your steps and immediately, your eyes get fixed on the television box as if you were under a spell.

Probably, you didn’t even notice that you left your house keys right at the door. You slammed the door shut, and just like in a trance, you move towards the sofa. You sit down and hours passed by.

By the time the TV program ends, you find yourself getting ’stuck’ again. You’re running out of time and anxiousness builds up. You feel frustrated. It is not the first time you got distracted away from your work and what’s worse? You might have to stay up late in order to complete your assignment or study for your test. Awwww…

Most often than not, people get distracted in their lives. And based on the biographies of successful people, we all know that having focused is one of the greatest and invaluable traits that we can possess.

In order to experience success in your career and whatever you’re doing, you must develop a strong focus. Always ask yourself what your main objectives are in your career, your home business and learn to focus on them. You’ll find yourself generating results you never thought you could.

It is always useful to have a 3 by 5 index card in front of you listing down all the main objectives that you want to meet for the day or for a particular period of time.

In fact, if you’re a writer, it is recommended for you to have this card being placed in front of you so that for whatever stories that you are writing, you can remain focused and not get out of point.

Be able to remain focused is a learned skill. As you may already realize, if you are doing things that you are truly interested and passionate about, remaining focused is not difficult. The challenge comes when you are doing something you have no interest in.

Again, it will be very useful to have all your objectives written down on a card or a paper and keep it in front of you all the time. If you’re an office worker, you might consider getting Post-It! notes where you can write down all the objectives you had to do for the day or a time-frame that you have set for yourself, and stick in at the side of your monitor screen.

Remember, being distracted will kill you and your success. Learn to develop focus and you’ll find yourself facing lesser stress. And in case you’re wondering how you can fully apply what you’ve learned in this post, here we go…

Practical Action Steps

Now, here are the actions that you might want to take if you find yourself constantly being distracted away from what they are supposed to do:

1. Get Post-It! notes or 3 x 5 index cards
2. List down all your objectives to be met or all your tasks to be completed
3. Set a time-frame for each of the tasks to be completed
4. Keep the notes or card in your view ALWAYS
5. Constantly check back at the note/card and make sure that you are doing activities that are truly necessary for you to complete the tasks

Once again, I’ll have to repeat that distraction can kill your success. Go ahead and follow the 5 steps and you’ll be dazzled with your increased productivity.

Start today, as what the Chinese Philosopher Lao Zi says, “A Journey of A Thousand Mile Begins With One Step”.

Being a personal development blogger for the past few years, Dominic Tay has written over 60 articles in the area of self help which benefited over 3,000 people worldwide. Currently his blog, “A Blog on Success, Marketing and Public Speaking” at http://www.dominictay.com/blog, is ranked the 1st Personal Development Blog in Google, Singapore.
